After nearly 10 years in Huntsville, Maki Fresh has permanently closed its location at The Shops at Merchants Walk. The restaurant had served sushi, poke bowls, and other Asian-inspired favorites since opening in 2016.
Maki Fresh Closes Huntsville Restaurant
Customers recently discovered a notice posted at the restaurant stating that the Huntsville location had permanently closed. The restaurant was located near Whole Foods at The Shops at Merchants Walk.
For years, Maki Fresh built a loyal following by offering fresh sushi rolls, poke bowls, rice bowls, and other quick-service Asian dishes.
Nearly a Decade in the Huntsville Community
Maki Fresh first opened its Huntsville restaurant in August 2016. The location was launched by former Zoe’s Kitchen executives John Cassimus and Tyre Stuckey as part of the regional restaurant brand’s expansion.
Over the years, the restaurant became a popular lunch and dinner destination for residents, shoppers, and nearby workers.
One Remaining Maki Fresh Location
With the Huntsville restaurant now closed, the Maki Fresh brand has reduced its footprint to a single remaining location in Mountain Brook, Alabama.
The company has not publicly shared a reason for the Huntsville closure. However, the restaurant’s closure marks the end of nearly a decade of serving customers in the Rocket City.
The change follows a broader reduction in the chain’s number of locations over the past several years.
