$8.5M street resurfacing project approved for Huntsville neighborhoods

Huntsville has approved new funding for major road improvements, including resurfacing and sidewalk upgrades across the city, according to online reports.

Huntsville Approves Major Paving and Sidewalk Projects

The Huntsville City Council approved two contracts totaling nearly $8.5 million for road and sidewalk improvements. The work will cover more than 60 city streets as part of the city’s 2026 resurfacing program.

In addition, the projects will improve sidewalks to meet Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) standards. City officials say the upgrades will also include curb repairs and drainage improvements where needed.

City Administrator John Hamilton said the city typically completes three to four resurfacing phases each year.

Contractors and Scope of Work

Rogers Group received the contract for residential street resurfacing, valued at about $4.99 million. Meanwhile, Lambert Contracting LLC will handle concrete work and ADA upgrades under a $3.47 million contract.

Furthermore, city leaders explained that paving projects now include surrounding infrastructure work. This means crews repair sidewalks, curbs, and wheelchair ramps whenever streets are resurfaced.

Hamilton also noted that some older neighborhoods lack ADA-compliant ramps. As a result, the city plans to install new ramps during this phase of work.

Ongoing Road Improvement Program in Huntsville

This approval follows earlier phases of the 2026 resurfacing program. In the first phase, the city completed work on more than 50 residential streets using similar contracts and contractors.

In addition, the city increased its 2026 resurfacing budget by $500,000, bringing the total to more than $18.8 million. Officials say the expanded funding supports continued upgrades to roads, sidewalks, and drainage systems across Huntsville.
