Huntsville Botanical Garden launches first ‘canstruction’ competition

The Huntsville Botanical Garden is teaming up with the Food Bank of North Alabama to host its first-ever “Canstruction” competition.

Teams Build Sculptures from Canned Food

Canstruction is a creative, community-driven event where teams design and build large-scale sculptures entirely from full cans of food. Participants can include businesses, civic groups, nonprofits, schools, clubs, and families.

Teams will construct their creations within a 10-foot by 10-foot footprint, reaching up to 8 feet tall. The finished sculptures will be displayed outside the Botanical Garden at the Grisham Pavilion for public viewing.

Free Public Exhibit and Voting

The exhibit will be open to the public on March 8 from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Visitors can enjoy the artwork and vote for their favorite “cancreation.” Build night is scheduled for March 6, followed by judging and awards on March 8.

After the event, all canned food will be donated to the Food Bank of North Alabama, helping fight hunger across the region.

How to Participate

Teams interested in entering can submit their designs by February 19. Interested groups can email [email protected] or call 256-830-4447, ext. 260. Entry forms are also available online.

The event promises fun, creativity, and a meaningful impact, combining art with community service in Huntsville.
