Lee-Huntsville Names Navendra Woods as new head football coach

Lee High School has appointed Navendra Woods as its new head football coach.

Experienced Coach with a Strong Background

The Huntsville City Board of Education approved Woods during a work session on January 13. Most recently, he served as defensive coordinator and linebackers coach at Huntsville High School from 2022 to 2026. Prior to that, he worked at Gadsden City High School as special teams coordinator and linebackers coach from 2019 to 2022.

Woods also has head coaching experience at Coosa Christian School in Gadsden, where he led the program from 2016 to 2018.

Building a Culture of Preparation and Discipline

Woods emphasized that preparation and accountability will form the foundation of his program. “I want us to be tough, physical, and disciplined,” he said in an online interview. “We will start with building from the ground up by focusing on the process and attention to detail.”

He stressed the importance of practicing at full intensity during the week to perform at a high level on game day.

Player Experience Shapes Coaching Philosophy

Woods brings personal playing experience to his coaching. He played high school football at Litchfield High School in Gadsden and then continued at Alabama A&M University under former head coach Anthony Jones.

Lee High School’s Generals are coming off a 0-10 season in 2025, and Woods aims to establish a belief, culture, and mindset that will help the team compete in upcoming seasons.
