Huntsville Radio helps raise millions for St. Jude through Country Cares

Country radio stations across the nation came together this month to support St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital. Through the annual Country Cares radiothons, stations raised more than $15.7 million to support children and families facing serious illnesses.

More than 70 country stations participated in the fundraising effort. Together, they encouraged listeners to donate and support St. Jude’s mission of providing care at no cost to families.

Strong Support From North Alabama

Here in North Alabama, local country radio stations played an important role. WDRM (102.1) in Huntsville, along with its Birmingham partner station WDXB, raised $431,600 during the radiothon. Their efforts helped push the national total even higher.

Nearby stations also showed strong support. WKSJ in Mobile raised more than $267,000, while US 101 in Chattanooga brought in over $711,000.

National Effort With Local Impact

On the national level, Premiere Networks’ The Bobby Bones Show led the way. The show raised more than $2.3 million during its radiothon. Bobby Bones thanked listeners for stepping up and making a difference for St. Jude families.

Several major-market stations also posted impressive totals. Minneapolis, Chicago, Denver, Detroit, and Atlanta all raised hundreds of thousands of dollars for the cause.

Why Country Cares Matters

The Country Cares program has supported St. Jude for decades. Funds raised help ensure families never receive a bill for treatment, travel, housing, or food. Because of listener support, St. Jude can focus on research and care while families focus on helping their children heal.

Thanks to Huntsville listeners and radio teams, North Alabama once again showed its generosity. Their support helped St. Jude continue its lifesaving work for children across the country.
