The Caring House moves to new Huntsville location

Huntsville Hospital’s The Caring House, which offers free grief support for children and teens after the death of a loved one, is moving to a new facility this week.

A Safe Place for Children to Grieve

The Caring House, now located at 2812 Drake Ave SW, Huntsville, is the only childhood bereavement program in Madison County, providing crucial support to schools, hospitals, and the community. Childhood grief can lead to depression, anger, academic struggles, and health issues. The program gives children and families the tools to process grief, build resilience, and begin healing in a safe environment.

Programs and Services Funded by Donations

The program relies on donations to the Huntsville Hospital Foundation (HHF) to provide evidence-based initiatives at no cost, including:

Peer grief group sessions

One-on-one grief support

Grief camps

Support services throughout public schools

A Community Lifeline

“Clinical settings can be hard, but The Caring House has a totally different feeling,” said Lacey Schoff. “It’s almost as though you can finally take a deep breath and sink into the cute little bungalow, knowing that you and your child are in a safe and understanding space. It is vital that our community has this space where children can go to share and feel cared for.”
