Changes coming to Huntsville International Airport

Huntsville International Airport is upgrading significantly to enhance its dining and retail options. This includes the addition of a Starbucks and a full-line kitchen. The existing restaurant and bar will also get a fresh look, featuring updated décor and a revamped kitchen offering gourmet, made-to-order breakfast, lunch, and dinner meals. Some of these meals will use locally sourced ingredients to support the community.

Tailwind Hospitality leads the upgrade

Tailwind Hospitality, a Wilmington, N.C.-based company, has secured a 10-year contract to spearhead this transformation. According to CEO Butch Roberts, the focus is on providing travelers with upscale food, beverages, and improved amenities. Moreover, the 18-month phased construction will introduce Interstellar Pizza while doubling the seating capacity in dining areas.

Retail and dining spaces get a modern refresh

In addition to dining upgrades, retail spaces will see a complete overhaul. Sundry and souvenir stores will replace the current shops, offering travelers more options. Renovations on both sides of security will create brighter, more open layouts for a convenient shopping experience. These improvements aim to serve better Huntsville’s growing population and its increasing number of visitors.

Rising passenger traffic fuels expansion

Notably, these upgrades come at a time of record-breaking passenger traffic. In October, the airport experienced an 8.4% rise in passengers compared to 2023, with a year-to-date increase of 11.9%. Parking demand has also surged, reinforcing the need for a new parking deck. This project is part of the airport’s broader $142 million improvement plan to support Huntsville’s growth.

By investing in these upgrades, Huntsville International Airport is preparing to meet the needs of both current and future travelers, making it a more modern and inviting hub for the region.
